Britton and I read Ask Mr. Bear by Majorie Flack this past week. It is a cute story about a little boy on the quest to find his mother the perfect birthday gift. He asks all the animals on the farm to help him out, and when they cannot, he goes into the woods to talk to Mr. Bear. Britton was very worried when the little boy went into the woods to talk to the bear. He said that it was not a good idea. Thankfully, the little boy is safe and finds out a great gift to give his mom.
Life on the Farm
We read a couple farm themed books. Our favorite was Farm Life. We dug through all of his duplos and made a farm for him to play with. He loves his duplos and he has quite the collection of farm animals and machinery.
We made popsicle stick puppets of all the characters in the book. This was his favorite activity all week and Britton put on multiple puppet shows each day. By the end of the week, he could recite the story on his own.
He also sorted gummy bears into color piles.
Lifecycle of a Plant
We read a couple books on the lifecycle of a plant. We loved the sunflower book. Such beautiful illustrations. Britton did a few worksheets on the parts of a plant and the lifecycle of a plant. We also watched a BrainPop Jr. on both of those topics. Britton made his own sunflower by telling me all the parts that we needed to add to the flower.
Un-birthday Party
Our last day reading the book, we had an un-birthday party. We watch a clip from Alice in Wonderland to explin what an un-birthday is. We baked and decorated a cake. We read a few birthday themed books. After lunch, the boys got to blow out candles and even open up a small gift. Britton said it was his best un-birthday!
We did not do a whole bunch on this book, but we had a great time going through it everyday and playing with our puppets. It was a sweet story and created many great memories.
