Virtue
We are still working on being attentive this week. This is a virtue that needs a lot of help in our house, so we are working on it again for the 2nd week in a row. Some days I have wonderful, attentive boys and then the next day I may be pushed to raise my voice the entire day.
I am also working in being attentive with the boys. When you are home with your kids all day and asked a million questions, it is really easy to start giving them simple answers, like "I don't know." I am working on really listening to the boys and hearing what they are saying.
Morning Work
Morning work was tough this week. The boys have to complete this packet of morning work on their own time in order to have technology time or friend time at the end of the week. They are not allowed to play with friends on Friday until all the work has been completed. One of my children almost lost all of his friend time for the weekend due to stalling and complaining. Tough lessons made for a difficult week, but this is one of the lessons the boys will just have to learn the hard way.
The boys worked more on their color poems this week and we read poems sent to us from our friends in Bangkok.
100 Book Challenge: Book #50
We finally finished Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" this week and I did not want this story to end. I loved these characters so much and felt like we were guests at their house witnessing everything that was going on. This story was so emotional. I can see why this book made the 100 Book list. It really is a must read.
Geography
This week we studied Alabama and Arkansas. We read about Rosa Parks and why she is such an important person in history. Greyson was interested to learn that she was still alive when he was born. It brought the reality of the fact the racism and segregation in America was not that long ago. Reading about Ms. Parks also went along great with our 100 Book chapter book, Roll of Thunder.
We learned that the Honeybee is the state insect of Arkansas and read a book on honeybees. We also looked up Crater of Diamonds State Park and checked out some of the diamonds that have been discovered there. The boys would like to take a field trip!
FIAR- How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World (Britton)
Britton's FIAR book this week was one of our favorites, How to Make and Apple Pie and See the World." I don't know how the rest of you feel about your last born, but I feel bad for poor Britton. I have rowed this book at least 3 other times in the past and have so many fun activities to go along with it, but this time we just skimmed the surface. It's so hard to come up with new ideas and to make the book as exciting as the first time we read it. We still had a fun time, but we didn't even make a pie!
Britton was drawing the path the little girl took around the world.
We watched a video about the seasons and the life cycle of an apple tree.
We read The Apple Pie Tree, to learn all about what an apple tree looks like in each season.
Britton painted his tree in all four seasons. (This is s strange concept to him because he has lived in Thailand most of his life and only knows 2 season, Hot & Rainy.)
We read a book on the life cycle of an apple tree and did a little worksheet to go along with it.
He also learned about the parts of an apple.

FIAR- Albert (Greyson & Lincoln)
I had really been feeling like Greyson and Lincoln were missing something in their school day and I finally realized it was FIAR. I love this curriculum and it has helped us make some of our very favorite memories during the school day. The big boys have not gone through Volume 4, so we started that with the book Albert. We will be spending 3-4 week on this book and so far, the boys have really enjoyed steping back into FIAR.
We started off the week making nature journals. I love how these turned out! I loved the paper bag pockets for the boys to add anything they collect on our nature walks.
Taking some time to observe our yard.
Snake skin in our yard.
Snails
That same toad from a few weeks ago.
The boys learned how to draw comics.
Starting out with some Elephant & Piggie templates. Later in the week they drew their own.
Extra-Curricular Activities
CO-OP
We are part of a Co-op in Bangkok. We have had quite a few changed to it this year, new location, new leadership committee, and quite a few new families. There are around 70 kids participating in the co-op and over 19 nationalities. We love this co-op. I'll be doing a post in the coming week about all that we do on co-op days.
Special Moments
Britton gave me and himself tattoos.
We had such a bad day on Wednesday this week, that we decided to dance instead of work. That help the attitudes in the house quite a bit!
Ben took Greyson and Lincoln to see their first concert, MUSE. They had so much fun and have been talking about it nonstop since.
Always a Buckeye!
Broom cart vendor. Love that Thai ingenuity!
Britton and his sweet friend, James.
