Whenever we travel anywhere we always make sure to visit some kind of museum.
Art museums, science museums,
history museums, whatever we can find. We found some great reviews on the
Hong Kong Science Museum and also saw that they had a great dinosaur exhibit and thought this would be a great way to end our time in Hong Kong. Our hotel let us check out late and let us leave our luggage while we were visiting the museum, so thankfully we did not have to bring our bags. But, if you do need to bring your bags, the museum has a bag check in counter that would allow for you to leave any size bag with them. I did not see this on their website, but they do offer it for free.
Right when we walked up to the building the boys were very excited to see the huge animatronic dinosaurs towering over them. They were snorting and moving and seemed very life like. We headed into the museum and decided to get the Dinosaur pass and a pass for the rest of the museum. Both passes were separate. We decided to check out the dinosaur exhibit first.
We walked down a dark tunnel that took us into a room with a large screen explaining when dinosaurs lived and how they disappeared. Then we viewed all of the other animatronic dinosaurs. They boys even had the chance to control the T-Rex and try to scare the audience. They loved that part. This part of the exhibit was pretty cool. This showed how the dinosaurs moved, ate, and even went to the bathroom! What boy wouldn't like that?

The next few rooms were dedicated to archaeology and dinosaur bones. At the beginning of the school year the boys were learning about archaeology and we even set up our own dig site. The boys enjoyed looking at the tools that archaeologist use and also all of the dinosaur bones that were set up. The exhibit also had quite a few great hands on activities for the boys to play with.
This was a a touch screen that let them become archaeologists. You had to pick the correct tool in order to dig out the bones.
The museum had a very large collection of dinosaur bones
After we left the dinosaur exhibit, we headed up to the main floor for the rest of the museum. It was a typical science museum with areas dedicated to electricity, force, wind power, and many other sections. My favorite was the area about food preservation and what goes into your pre-packaged food. It also had a great section on how to compost, which was very interesting. I think the boys had the most fun at the news station, where they took control of the camera and recorded their own news program. It was hysterical.

We had to race through parts of the museum due to our flight back to Bangkok, but we ended up spending a good 3-4 hours there. If you need to fill up some time while you are in Hong Kong, check out the Science Museum for sure. My kids loved it.
We have been hosting a Flat Stanley since August. He was saying goodbye to Hong Kong.

We were sad that our trip was coming to and end. We had a mostly wonderful experience exploring Cambodia and Hong Kong and really did end up leaving a piece of our hearts there. Time to get back to Bangkok. Check back to see where our next adventure will be in April!
Goodbye Hong Kong from my 3 little travelers.
Great post Sara, my Kids would love that Museum, my seven year old son is really in to dinosaurs at the moment (find me a little boy that isn't!). I think Science Museums are always the most fun because they are so interactive for the kids :-)
